BTR 22.NOV.2008 – Mixed Bag of Goodies
Today was an especially eclectic day. The assortment of today’s findings are truly varied. Yet at the same time informative and quite interesting. Enjoy.
The Booth Company: Provider of 360 Solutions
I really like the ‘name’ of this firm. “. ) In business since 1972, The Booth Company, located in Boulder, CO uses a team of international consultants to provide executive, management and team effectiveness for Fortune 1000 corporations. They provide a very interesting set of tools providing a “… 360 degree feedback…statistically validated on over 200 million responses and … validated theory of management and leadership.” I really should content this group and see if there’s a family connection.
Stress shown to warp brains
We knew stress was a problem causer, but now we can add to it brain warper! Scientists have reported findings that show the brain is warped out of shape under higher levels and continued duration of stress. Ouch! Ease up and chill.
ServPro
The ‘we’ll clean up you mess and it’ll be like it never even happened’ franchise is something else. They are making a bundle on doing what no one else even wants to contemplate doing. Mike Rowe would be proud of them. Really!
The CAN-SPAM ACT
Speaking of cleaning up messes! SPAM is so absolutely annoying that many people are being driven from computer use. Not a totally bad thing as it does open up the pipeline. But it’s the wrong way to relieve such stresses. Besides, it’s libel to warp our perspective. Eh?
Netflix Improvement Contest
Netflix the massively popular online video rental company is always looking for ways to improve their effectiveness in the market. They put out a reward for anyone who could write a program or come up with a plan that would improve their business so they get a full 10% increase in efficiency. They offer a $1M prize. It’s still up for grabs. But the interest level is suddingly spiking!
XML Shareable Playlist Format
XML is one of the most versatile computer languages going. It can be – and is being used for everything from database concealment to ripping tunes across multiple lists for listening. XML Shareable Playlist Format (XSPF – prounounced spiff ) is yet another example of this versatile language.
Yes .. that is a list with just about NOTHING in common. Well except for one thing: they are all INTERESTING!
Enjoy.
